The short version: Swirl stores your brew data on your device. We don't sell it, share it, or use it to advertise to you. If you use iCloud sync, Apple handles the transport. That's it.

1. Who we are

Swirl Coffee, Inc. ("Swirl", "we", "us", or "our") operates the Swirl iOS application. Our contact address is privacy@swirl.coffee.

2. What we collect

We collect as little as possible. Here's what happens when you use Swirl:

  • Brew data you enter — recipes, timers, tasting notes, ratings, bean details — is stored locally on your device using Core Data. It never leaves your device unless you explicitly enable iCloud sync.
  • iCloud sync (optional) — if you enable iCloud sync, your brew data is synced via CloudKit using your personal iCloud account. We never have access to this data; Apple's iCloud infrastructure handles it end-to-end.
  • Purchase information — if you purchase Swirl Pro, the transaction is processed entirely by Apple via StoreKit. We receive a receipt confirmation and your App Store account region, but never your payment details.
  • Crash reports (optional) — if you opt into Apple's privacy-preserving crash reporting, we may receive anonymised crash logs through Xcode Organizer. These contain no personally identifiable information.

3. What we don't collect

  • We do not collect your name, email address, or any account information.
  • We do not use analytics SDKs (no Firebase, Mixpanel, Amplitude, or similar).
  • We do not run advertising networks or sell data to third parties.
  • We do not track you across other apps or websites.
  • We do not collect location data.

4. How we use information

The brew data you enter is used solely to provide the app's core functionality — guiding you through recipes, displaying your history, and powering the home screen widget if you use Swirl Pro. We have no server-side visibility into your brews.

Crash reports, when received, are used only to diagnose and fix bugs.

5. Data sharing

We do not share your personal data with any third party, except in the following limited cases:

  • Apple / iCloud — solely to facilitate optional sync at your request, under Apple's privacy terms.
  • Legal requirements — if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Swirl, our users, or others. We would notify you if legally permitted to do so.

6. Data retention and deletion

All your brew data lives on your device and, optionally, in your personal iCloud account. You can delete all data at any time by deleting the Swirl app from your device. If you use iCloud sync, you can also delete the iCloud data from Settings → [Your name] → iCloud → Manage Storage → Swirl.

We hold no server-side copies of your data, so there is nothing for us to delete on our end.

7. Children's privacy

Swirl is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at privacy@swirl.coffee.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights including access to, correction of, and deletion of your personal data. Because we collect so little, most requests can be fulfilled by simply deleting the app. For anything else, contact us at privacy@swirl.coffee and we'll respond within 30 days.

9. Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top and, where appropriate, notify you through the app. Continued use of Swirl after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
